New Providence Police Blotter: Aug. 3-9

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department.

08-03-2011 — A manager from a borough pool reported an attempted burglary to the concession stand. The actors did not gain access.  The crime is being investigated by the Detective Bureau.

08-03-2011 — A resident from Elkwood Avenue called 911 to report that he was following two juvenile male bicycle thieves who had just stolen a 7-year-old boy’s bike from outside of the library.  The resident directed patrol officers to where the juveniles were.  The bicycle was recovered and returned to the 7-year-old.  The two juveniles, from Summit, were taken into protective custody and questioned with their parents present.  Complaints were signed against the juveniles for theft and the matter has been forwarded to the Union County Family Court.

08-05-2011 — Patrols responded to the rear of a business on a report of a dumpster fire.  The New Providence Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, which appeared to have been set intentionally.  The fire is under investigation by the Detective Bureau.

08-07-2011 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Donald Mueller, age 49, of Union. Mr. Mueller's charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to deliver CDS to a law enforcement officer.  Mr. Mueller’s vehicle was stopped for a cracked windshield.  A check of his license also revealed that his driving privileges were suspended.  Mr. Mueller was released pending Union County Grand Jury Action.

08-07-2011 — A resident from Delwick Lane reported his unlocked bicycle was stolen from a bike rack at one of the borough pools.  The theft is being investigated by the Detective Bureau.

08-08-2011 — A resident of Spring Floral Drive reported that she believed someone attempted to break into her residence.  Upon investigation it was determined that there were several pry marks on the front door, which appeared to be from a crowbar.  No entry was gained and no other attempts were made.  The crime occurred between 10 p.m. on August 6 and 10 p.m. on August 7.  The attempted burglary is under investigation by the Detective Bureau.
