NPPD Make Arrest After Driver Asleep Behind the Wheel

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

12-17-2011 – At 3:09 a.m., patrols responded to Mountain Avenue at the intersection of Ryder Way on a report from a motorist that there was a driver asleep at the wheel.  Upon patrols arrival, they observed a white SUV with a driver that appeared to be sleeping.  As officers were on both sides of the vehicle attempting to check the welfare of the driver, the SUV began to accelerate away from the officers driving off the roadway crashing into a tree.  While the driver continued to spin the tires to the SUV, officers broke a window and were able to shut the vehicle off.  Steven Voytac, 25, of Berkeley Heights was arrested for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.  He was released to a family member with a pending court date. 

12-14-2011 – Patrols responded to Willow Street residence on a report that someone had purposely drained his fish pond and damaged the filtering equipment.

12-14-2011 – Corporal Dennis Carovillano arrested John Rosalez, 42, of Newark on outstanding warrants from Union, Summit, Highland Park, East Hanover and Mount Olive Municipal Courts.  Mr. Rosalez was stopped on Diamond Hill Road for equipment violations.  He was issued summonses for improper display of a license plate and for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

12-14-2011 – Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested John Van Hook, 39, of Bath, Pennsylvania on an outstanding warrant out of Ridgewood Municipal Court.  Mr. Van Hook was originally stopped for operating an overweight vehicle on Union Avenue and was issued a summons.

12-16-2011 – Detective Sean Bubb charged Christopher Stanek, 26, of New Providence with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of prescription drugs and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.  The charges stem from Mr. Stanek attempting to drive through a DUI checkpoint on Diamond Hill Road.  He was released with a pending court date.

12-16-2011 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Michael Grace, 51, of Scotch Plains with driving with a suspended driver’s license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.  The charges stem from a traffic stop on Diamond Hill Road.

12-18-2011 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Juan Carlos Calderon-Nunez, 32, of Berkeley Heights on an outstanding warrant from Watchung Municipal Court.  Mr. Calderon-Nunez was also charged with hindering apprehension for providing the officer with false information to avoid the warrant.  He was also charged with driving while suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving without a license.
