New Providence Police Blotter: DWIs, Robbery Scam

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

12-8-2012 – Corporal Chad Wilson arrested Rathney Barquero, 18, of Caldwell on an outstanding warrant out of Cranford Municipal Court.  The warrant was located after a resident contacted the police department about suspicious activity on Livingston Avenue.

12-9-2012 – Patrols responded to Union Avenue on a report of a motorist traveling with the axle dragging on the roadway.  Patrols located the vehicle on Springfield Avenue.  Upon investigation by the responding officers, it was determined that the operator of the vehicle had been involved in a motor vehicle crash and was intoxicated.  Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged the operator, Mark Dooley, 50, of New Providence with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and operating an unsafe vehicle.  He was released to a family member with a pending court date.

12-15-2012 – A resident reported that she was the target of a robbery scam.  She indicated that she received an e-mail from someone fraudulently identifying themselves as a family member that resides out of the country and was robbed while she was in Wales.  The e-mail also stated that the family member needed $2000 to be sent via Western Union to her.  The resident was attempting to send the money until an alert cashier at a Borough business advised the resident that it appeared to be a scam.  No money was sent.  Residents are reminded to be careful of e-mail and telephone scams about friends and family members needing money sent via Western Union.
