New Providence Police Blotter: Feb. 23—Mar. 4

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

02-23-2012- Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Keenya C. Williams, age 28, of Newark with driving while her license was suspended after her vehicle was stopped for having tinted windows. 

02-24-2012- A resident of Southgate Road reported that while attempting to file his taxes he was advised that someone already filed taxes under his name and social security number.  The resident has been in contact with a detective from the IRS and also the New Providence Detective Bureau.  Residents are advised to contact the IRS and the detective bureau if they encounter the same type of fraud.  Residents can also visit the IRS website (www.IRS.gov) for tips on what to do if you are a victim of identity theft in relation to tax returns.

02-25-2012- Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Richard Ferreiro Jr., age 20, of Hillside with driving while intoxicated after a random license plate inquiry revealed that the registration on the vehicle was expired.  Mr. Ferreiro was released to a friend pending a court date.

03-02-2012- A member of the New Providence Department Wastewater Treatment Plant reported that a portable generator was stolen while they were repairing a sewer line.  The worker indicated that it was stolen after a suspect asking for directions distracted them, a second suspect stole the generator from the rear of their truck   The generator wasn’t observed to be missing until several minutes later, after the suspects left the scene.  The theft is currently under investigation by the detective bureau.

03-04-2012- Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Engels S. Mayorga, age 33, of Scotch Plains on an outstanding warrant out of the Rahway Municipal Court.  His vehicle was stopped for a commercial vehicle equipment violation.  He was released after posting the bail.
