New Providence Police Blotter: July 9 - July 28

The following arrest information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

7-19-11 – Detective Stephen Drown charged Shanakay Bignott, 21, of Newark with two counts of theft by deception and two counts of identity theft.  The charges stem from Ms. Bignott utilizing the identity of her former roommate on two occasions in February with her North Carolina driver’s license, to withdraw $2,000 from her savings account at a credit union in New Providence.  Ms. Bignott was arrested and released with a pending court date at the Union County Superior Court. 

7-19-11 – Patrolman Michael Scuorzo arrested Gita Bajaj, 52, of Guttenberg on an outstanding warrant out of Trenton in the amount of $3,500.  Gita Bajaj was originally stopped for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration on Diamond Hill Road. 

7-20-11 – A 17-year-old juvenile male from New Providence was charged with shoplifting and underage possessing of alcohol after stealing a case of beer from M & M Liquors.  As the juvenile attempted to flee the store with the beer, two witnesses stopped him in the parking lot as he was fleeing to a waiting vehicle.  The juvenile was released to a parent with a pending court date at the Union County Family Court.

7-20-11 – Patrolman Chad Wilson charged Stephen Zimmerman, 18, of New Providence with underage possession of alcohol and for violating his provisional driver’s license.  The charges stem from Patrolman Wilson investigating a suspicious vehicle parked in a school parking lot at 11:45 p.m.

7-20-11 – A resident of Murray Hill Farms reported that her 2002 Audi S4 was stolen from her parking area sometime during the night.  Anyone that possibly witnessed this theft is asked to contact the New Providence Police at 908-665-1111.

7-25-11 – Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged WC Cramer, 27, of Piscataway with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, failing to report a motor vehicle crash and careless driving.  The charges stem from a witness observing Mr. Cramer crashing into a curb and knocking over a street sign on Springfield Avenue by Constantine Place.  Mr. Cramer continued traveling west on Springfield Avenue after the crash but was stopped by Patrols on Springfield Avenue by Ridgeview Avenue. 

7-26-11 – A resident of Grant Avenue reported that a vase was stolen from his basement between 7-19-11 and 7-23-11.  This case is being investigated by the detective bureau.
