New Providence Police Blotter: Mar. 4 - Mar. 14

The New Providence Police Department has been investigating various acts of vandalism throughout the borough. Anyone with information on these acts is asked to contact the police department.

3-4-2011 – Patrolman Bryce Garrison arrested Hassana Sessons, 39, of Plainfield on an outstanding warrant from the City of Elizabeth Municipal Court.  The outstanding warrant was located after she was stopped for operating an unregistered vehicle.

3-5-2011 – Patrol officers responded to 85 Division Avenue on a report of vandalism on the tennis court, picnic tables, a shed and a bulletin board.

3-12-2011 – Patrol officers responded to 201 Maple Street on a report that a shed located on the property had been damaged by an individual by breaking off a handle and breaking two windows.

3-12-2011 – Patrol officers responded to Livingston Avenue and 4th Street on a report of two individuals attempting to pull down a street sign at that location. 

Since 3-5-2011 to 3-14-2011, Officers have reported a large amount of vandalism throughout the Borough, especially involving graffiti with spray paint and permanent markers.  The damage has caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to vehicles, private property and public property.  The following locations have been identified as the target of vandals:

At 1378 Springfield Avenue, vandals had spray painted the tennis courts and practice wall.  Permanent marker damage to the front of a business located at 1260 Springfield Avenue.  Spray paint and permanent marker damage at the pedestrian tunnel at the New Providence Rail Road Station. Spray paint graffiti on fences on Spring Street.  Spray paint graffiti behind 1259 Springfield Avenue.  Spray paint to a driveway on Willow Street.  Spray paint to street signs on Springfield Avenue and Division Avenue.  Spray paint on the playground and pavement at Salt Brook School.  Spray paint damage on a retaining wall at the New Providence Rail Road Station as well as a second wave of graffiti in the pedestrian tunnel, platform and sidewalk.   Spray paint was also located on a parked van in the New Providence rail Road lot utilized for the transporting of handicapped individuals.  Spray paint was also located on the playground at Lyons Park and on the pavement at Oakwood Park.  Video surveillance has been obtained of two suspects at one of the locations and the Detective Bureau is currently investigating all of these incidents.  If anyone has witnessed or has information involving these acts of vandalism, please contact the police department at 665-1111.
