New Providence Police Blotter: Nov. 17 - 30

The following arrest information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

11-17-2011 — A resident of Pleasantview Avenue reported her vehicle was burglarized and the credentials were stolen sometime during the early morning hours of December 16th.  The burglary is currently under investigation by the Detective Bureau.

11-17-2011 — Detective Stephen Drown charged Roberto Alvarado, age 28, of Plainfield with driving while suspended after he was stopped for failing to maintain the lamps on his vehicle.

11-19-2011 — Corporal Daniel Henn arrested Timothy Higgins, age 27, of New Providence with driving while intoxicated after a liquor store owner contacted the police department in reference to Mr. Higgins.  Patrols responded to the liquor store and after an investigation, arrested Mr. Higgins for DWI.  He was released to another adult pending a court date.

11-19-2011 — Patrolman Michael Hand arrested Drew Nichols, age 45, of Summit with driving while intoxicated after a motorist contacted police headquarters to report Mr. Nichols’ vehicle was being operated recklessly.  Upon arrival to the scene, Patrolman Hand found Mr. Nichols outside of his vehicle, which was left running.  After an investigation, Mr. Nichols was arrested for DWI and for four active warrants out of Springfield, Hanover Township, Summit, and Roseland.  Mr. Nichols was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and driving while suspended and released to another adult pending a court date.  He was released by the other courts pending court dates in those municipalities.

11-21-2011 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Cindy Torres-Solorzano, age 27, of North Bergen on an outstanding warrant out of Secaucus after her vehicle was stopped for a cracked windshield.  She was also charged with possession of a fraudulent insurance card along with driving while suspended, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating a vehicle with a cracked windshield, and failing to make repairs to the vehicle.  Ms. Torres-Solorzano posted the bail for the warrant and was released pending a court date.  The owner of the vehicle, Tiffany Perez, was charged with allowing the operation of a vehicle without insurance, failure to make repairs to the vehicle, and for the cracked windshield.

11-21-2011 — Patrolman Joseph Parlapiano charged Sean P. Meehan, age 22, of Boonton with soliciting without a permit after a resident reported the violation.

11-25-2011 — Patrolman Chad Wilson responded to the rear of the New Providence Library on a report of three juveniles trespassing.  Upon arrival, Patrolman Wilson found the picnic bench covered in aerosol product and the three juveniles were in possession of aerosol cans and lighters.  The juveniles were taken into protective custody and released pending a court date.

11-27-2011 — Patrolman Chad Wilson arrested Artem Yevtushenko, age 20, of New Providence on an outstanding warrant out of the Borough.  Mr. Yevtushenko was released after posting the bail.

11-27-2011 — Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested Guillermo Garcia, age 25, of Jersey City with an outstanding warrant out of Jersey City.  Mr. Garcia was released after posting the bail.

11-28-2011 — A resident on Union Avenue reported his pumpkin and Nativity scene were stolen from his front lawn.  The theft is currently under investigation by the Detective Bureau.

11-28-2011 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Joseph Budis, age 61, of New Providence with operating a vehicle without insurance and for failing to wear his seatbelt after he was stopped for not wearing his seatbelt.

11-28-2011 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Arthur J. Smallman, age 25, of Brooklyn, New York and Alexandra Barnes, age 24, of Rockaway Park, New York on outstanding warrants out of the Borough.  They were released after posting the bail.

11-29-2011 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond issued Michael Pena, age 22, of Union City with driving while suspended and operating a vehicle without insurance after his vehicle was stopped for an equipment violation.  The owner of the vehicle, Catia Mosquera-Mora, age 48, of Union City was issued a summons for allowing the operation of an uninsured vehicle.

11-30-2011 — Corporal Daniel Henn arrested Wahid Jalil, age 18, of Astoria, New York with possession of CDS.  Corporal Henn conducted a welfare check on Mr. Jalil’s vehicle after he observed it with its hazards on the side of the road and through an investigation arrested Mr. Jalil.  Mr. Jalil was released pending a court date.

11-30-2011 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond issued Michael Beckford, age 38, of Newark after a random registration look-up revealed his license and registration were suspended.  Mr. Beckford was stopped for the violations and also charged with operating a vehicle without insurance.

DWI Checkpoint Information:  As part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign, the New Providence Police Department will be conducting a Driving While Intoxicated checkpoint detail on Diamond Hill Road at Mountain Avenue on December 15, 2011.
