New Providence Police Blotter: Nov. 19 - Dec. 6

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

11-19-2012 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Jason Hoholik, age 23, of Fairfield with operating a vehicle while his license was suspended after he was stopped for careless driving.

11-20-2012 — Corporal Steven Opalewski reported finding graffiti at the New Providence Railroad Station in the walk-through tunnel.  The graffiti said “Skyline.”  The criminal mischief is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.

11-20-2012 — Corporal Dennis Carovillano charged Salvatore Polizzi, age 49, of Bloomfield with operating a vehicle while his license was suspended and for careless driving after he was involved in an accident.

11-21-2012 — Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Shawn Canty, age 30, of North Plainfield with operating a vehicle while his license was suspended after he was stopped for careless driving.  He was also charged with operating a vehicle without insurance.  The owner of the vehicle, Christina Canty, was charged with allowing the operation of a vehicle without insurance.  Both were given mandatory municipal court dates.

11-22-2012 — A resident of Ridge Drive reported her vehicle was stolen between 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 9:20 a.m. on Nov. 22.  Any residents who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area during that time frame is asked to contact the police department at (908) 665-1111. The theft is currently under investigation by the detective bureau.

12-03-2012- Patrolman Michael Scuorzo arrested Deepak Madhavan, age 35, of Hackensack on an outstanding active warrant out of New Providence after his vehicle was stopped for not having a front license plate.  Mr. Madhavan satisfied the warrant and was released with a warning for the equipment violation.

12-04-2012- A resident of Birch Place reported that there were three fraudulent withdrawals to his bank account totaling $769.00.  The withdrawals all occurred in Florida and are currently under investigation.

12-06-2012 — Sergeant Justine Kennedy arrested Sergio Ortiz Jr., age 28, of Newark on an outstanding active warrant out of New Providence after he was stopped for operating an overweight vehicle on Union Avenue.  Mr. Ortiz’s license was also suspended.  Mr. Ortiz was released after posting bail and was charged with driving while suspended.
