Police Arrest New Providence Man in Burglary of Springfield Avenue Home

The following arrest information was provided by the New Providence Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 11, 2013, 3:53 p.m.:

Patrols responded to a Springfield Avenue residence on a report of a burglary that had occurred. The victim reported one of the suspects was still in the residence and one had fled in in a black, Toyota Camry. 

Upon arrival, the victim stated that the man in the house had stolen $7,000 in cash from her locked, first floor bedroom. The landlord of the residence observed two men entering the first floor of the home while he was sitting in the driveway in his vehicle awaiting a utility company to perform work at the house.

The male taken into custody on scene by officer is identified as Hignio Diaz-Vasquez, 31, of New Providence. He was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree theft. 

Bail was set at $10,000 and Diaz-Vasquez was transported to the Union County Jail. The identity of the second suspect that fled in the Toyota is still under investigation.

Proceeds from the burglary were not recovered and it is believed that Mr. Diaz-Vasquez turned the money over to the suspect that fled the scene.
