Police Report Vehicle-Related Incidents

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Throughout the last two weeks, the New Providence Police Department reported four motor vehicle related incidents around the borough.

The first occurred on June 1 when patrols responded to a Springfield Avenue parking lot on a report of a vehicle crashing into two signs and knocking over a tree. 

The driver of the vehicle left the scene.  Patrols located the driver and vehicle involved in the crash.  Anna Vaidman, 62, of New Providence was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and for careless driving.

Also on June 1, patrols took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident on High Street when a resident’s 2012 BMW was struck by an unknown vehicle.  The detective bureau is investigating the report.

On June 5, a pedestrian crossing sign was hit by an unknown vehicle on Union Avenue by Fairview Avenue.  Any witnesses to this incident are requested to call the New Providence Police Department at 908-665-1111.

Later in the week on June 8, Patrolman Joseph Parlapiano located a light post outside of the New Providence Municipal Building on Academy Street that had been struck by an unknown motor vehicle. 

The light post was lying on the ground and significantly damaged.  Patrols took a report on the incident.  Detective Sean Bubb and Patrolman Andrew Diamond located the suspect vehicle through an investigation of several of the suspect’s vehicle parts left behind at the scene originally collected by patrols. 

Caroline Carbajal, 28, of New Providence was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving and for operating a vehicle while her license was suspended.
