Power Outages, Trees Down in Berkeley Heights; Structure Fire in Mountainside

Hurricane Irene creates issues in local towns.

As the rain continues to pummel Union County, the Berkeley Heights police are reporting several issues within the township.

So far all Berkeley Heights downtown businesses are closed. 

Springfield Ave is closed at Robbins Ave., while there are scattered power outages thoughout the township.

N.J  State police have diverted traffic off 78 West at exit 43 (Diamond Hill Rd.) due to flooding in the area on the highway. 

There are numerous trees down throughout the township.

In Mountainside, there is a two-story structure fire being attended to on Ackerman Ave., which was reported at 7:40a.m. The police and fire department are on scene.

All roads within two blocks of the fire have been blocked by police.
