Resident Lied About Crashing Car, Leaving Scene, Police Say

New Providence woman told police her car was stolen, authorities say.

An intoxicated New Providence woman crashed her car into a telephone pole and then made a false report to police, authorities said.

Kathleen Mcleod, 23, was arrested Sept. 18 and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, hindering apprehension and falsifying a police report. 

Mcleod had told authorities that her 2002 Honda Accord was stolen and crashed on Springfield Avenue, police said. The Accord was found disabled near Pittsford Way.

Because of the report of theft, the Union County Sheriff’s Department K-9 and surrounding agencies assisted in searching for a suspect.

However, a witness told police that a female fitting Mcleod’s description was seen crashing into a telephone pole and leaving the scene, authorities said.

Mcleod was placed under arrest in her driveway.
