Simultaneous Car Accidents Resulted in No Injuries

Two motor vehicle accidents occurred at the same time Tuesday.

Chatham Borough Police responded to two simultaneous car accidents at 3:44 p.m. Tuesday, neither of which resulted in no injuries.

River Road and Lackawanna Avenue

Sgt. Michael Mahone responded to an accident on River Road near Lackawanna Avenue at 3:44 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17.

His investigation revealed that Lucas Vasques, 19, of Berkeley Heights had lost control of his 2002 Honda while going around the bend and had struck a guard rail, police said.

Vasques told police that he hydroplaned while going around the bend and lost control of his car, according to police.

There were no injuries and the car was towed from the scene, police said.

Vasquez was issued a summons for careless driving due to excessive speed on a wet roadway, according to police.

Main Street and Garden Avenue

At 3:44 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, Patrolman Brian Colatrella investigated a motor vehicle accident on Main Street near Garden Avenue, police said.

His investigation revealed that a 2003 Dodge driven by Richard Passanisi, 21, of Valley Cottage, NJ was stopped in the westbound lane of Main Street traffic when he was struck from behind by a 2008 Volkswagen driven by a 17-year-old female from Chatham, police said.

The female told police that she did not notice that the traffic had come to a stop and struck Passanisi's vehicle, according to police.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene and no summonses were issued, police said.
