Students Learn Bicycle Safety at Second Annual Rodeo

A total of 116 students participated and were instructed on how to ride their bicycles in a safe manner.

The New Providence Police Department, with the support of the New Providence School District, conducted its second annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo on May 25th and 26th.

This year, a total of 116 students participated and were instructed on how to ride their bicycles in a safe manner. Craig Ward of High-Gear Cyclery in Stirling, NJ volunteered several hours each day to check and correct all bicycles for safety and mechanical problems, free of charge.

Donna Zane, of Salt Brook PTA, assisted with planning. Judy Demby and Ed Baginski of AAA North Jersey were on hand and donated 200 reflective LED lights and 75 Bicycle Helmets to New Providence Police Department for any children who might need them.

New Providence Police Officers provided bicycle safety and Rodeo course instruction. This brings the total bicycles checked and registered with the Police Department to 240.

For the second year in a row, New Providence PBA Local 132 donated a bicycle to a child who showed the most spirit. If you have a bicycle at home and would like it registered with the New Providence Police Department, please contact 908-665-1111.
