Suspicious Package on Bus Was a False Alarm

NJ Transit driver reported bag left behind by passenger to West Caldwell police.

The Essex County Bomb Squad said a suspicious package left behind on a NJ Transit bus Sunday afternoon contained the personal belongings of a passenger who forgot his bag.

The package was reported at 1:15 p.m. to the West Caldwell Police by the bus driver after he made the last stop on his route on Kirkpatrick Lane. The West Caldwell Police in turn contacted the Essex County Bomb Squad and closed surrounding roads, including Bloomfield Avenue and Clinton Road, as well as part of the parking near the and  bank.

The driver said the bag was left behind by a man near the Verona and Montclair border. Police were able to identify the passenger based on the driver's description and got him back his bag.
