New Providence sustained downed trees, downed power lines and power outages Monday due to a severe storm surge and a confirmed tornado that moved through New Providence Monday morning.

Power was restored to some areas of the borough, including the business district, according to a statement from the Borough of New Providence Monday evening.

“JCP&L has been assessing the damage and is currently working in New Providence,” according to the statement. “JCP&L reports that approximately 280 customers in New Providence remain without power. JCP&L expects that the majority of customers will be restored by midnight tonight, with the remaining customers restored early tomorrow. These are estimates by JCP&L based on the damage assessment they conducted throughout the day.”
