2:00 p.m.: Traffic Alert: Rt. 22 East in Mountainside Now Open After Transformer Fire

Closed since early this morning, road now re-opened by Locust Ave.

A utility wire came down on Rt. 22 east at Locust Ave. near the Spanish Tavern in Mountainside at 8:10 a.m., causing one lane of the two-lane highway to be closed to traffic.

Mountainside police say a transformer blew as well, causing the closure of one lane of traffic for the fire personnel to operate. The area was re-opened to traffic early in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, rain continues to patter Union County, and while roads are generally clear, motorists should still be cautious especially as the temperatures drop into the evening.
