Two Charged With Unlawful Possession of Weapon in Berkeley Heights

One of two individuals was also charged with being an unlicensed driver. Bail set at $20,000 for each, given court dates to appear in Union County Superior Court.

On Thursday, Oct. 11 at 2:36 a.m., Berkeley Heights Ptl. Ron DeSimoni arrested Raheim Williams, 36, of Chambersburg PA, and Jamar Carter, 30, of Manhattan, NY. 

Williams was the operator of a 2004 Mazda that was stopped on Mountain Avenue, after Ptl. DeSimoni had responded to a residential alarm in the area.

Williams could not produce a valid driver’s license and a warrant check revealed an outstanding warrant out of Harrisburg, PA for Carter. 

Upon further investigation, neither individual could explain where they had come from or why they were in the area, both exhibiting signs of nervousness.

After receiving consent to search the motor vehicle, Ptl. DeSimoni recovered a 9mm handgun in the trunk. 

Both individuals were placed under arrest, brought to police headquarters and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. 

Williams was also charged with being an unlicensed driver. 

Bail was set at $20,000 for both parties and they were given court dates to appear in Union County Superior Court.
