Water Main Breaks Snarl Traffic, Impact New Providence Residents

Crews worked to restore water Monday night in the area of Passaic Street and Walker Drive after two separate main breaks.

Two separate water main breaks Monday evening impacted residents and traffic in the area of Passaic Street and Walker Drive, the New Providence Fire Department said.

The breaks caused nearby residents to lose water pressure. The roadways were also damaged, causing traffic detours along Elkwood, Madison and Commonwealth avenues.

According to American Water's outage map, less than 50 customers were impacted as of about 9:30 p.m. Monday. However, the restoration process was expected to last 8 to 10 hours, according to American Water.
