Berkeley Heights Township Council Appoints CFO

Michael Marceau to serve a four year term as CFO and town treasurer.

Michael Marceau was appointed as CFO and treasurer of Berkeley Heights on Tuesday night, greeted by a round of applause by the council who congratulated him and welcomed him to town after an extensive search.

Mayor Joseph Bruno said the township exhausted their search and were "very picky" when looking at candidates.

"He will be a great addition to the town," he said.

Marceau will be making $86,100 per year for four years. If his contract is renewed after four years, he will be tenured in the town.

It's the first time that Berkeley Heights will have a permanent CFO in place, after the position was previously held part-time.

Other Council News

The council also tabled an ordinance for future consideration regarding zoning fees for home projects. An issue that polarized the council, they agreed that unnecessary fees will be avoided, but the proposed zoning fees need to be examined more thoroughly, with exact figures proposed for construction projects, before a vote will take place.

The ordinance proposed to set up fees for home projects in addition to permit fees. But some council members, like Jeanne Kingsley, said homeowners should not be charged for wanting to beautify their homes.

The ordinance, when re-presented to the council, will have a breakdown of construction and the costs associated with permits - from extensions to driveway paving.

The councill also discussed adding fire alarms to the municipal building complex and will be examining codes for the buildings on what to install and where the safety precautions need to be placed.

The board also unanimously voted in favor of a fireworks display in honor of Carmella DelDuca, who will be celebrating her 100th birthday in July.

"She hasn't missed a Memorial Day Parade in maybe 100 years," joked Bruno. "We hope she has a big celebration and all the best for the next 100 years."
