Cafe Set to Open at Berkeley Heights Train Station

New cafe to provide bagels, coffee in old Mama Caboose's facility.

Commuters will be able to grab a bite to eat before catching the train in Berkeley Heights as the town awarded a lease to open a café at the train station.

The lease, awarded to Yoram Aflalo, will set up a place for coffee and bagels in the old Mama Caboose space, which was vacated after a fire tore through the restaurant last year.

Aflalo was given the lease for $1,450 a month, and is expected to open in two months. The café hours will be from 6:15 a.m. to cater to the early travelers until 7 p.m. to catch the weary and hungry on their way home. .

Mayor Joe Bruno said the hours were included in the lease to make sure the café will be open for commuters. “They are responsible for the whole train station, even the restrooms.”

Bruno said during the Jan. 1 reorganization meeting that the restaurant will bring the township $17,400 in rent annually.
