Council Honors Kevin Carroll For Years of Service To Borough

Carroll, a life-long resident, was a volunteer coach for many years and became heavily involved with Recreation Commission, CAAB and Recreation Master Plan Committee.

Council thanked life-long resident Kevin Carroll on Monday night for his many years of service to the Borough by presenting him with a proclamation.

Mayor J. Brooke Hern read from the proclamation, stating that Carroll has demonstrated a special care and concern for the community, demonstrating his integrity, fairness, work ethic and sportsmanship to countless athletes, parents, and coaches that he has interacted with over the years.

“Kevin has served on the Recreation Commission and Community Activities Advisory Board of the Borough of New Providence for nearly 15 years,” Hern said. “Kevin shared his leadership skills and vision with the members of the Community Activities Advisory Board serving as the Chair from 2006 to 2011.”

Hern said Carroll also served as member and chair on the Recreation Master Plan Committee from 2004-2007, providing guidance on significant recreation issues that have had tremendous impact on the residents of the borough, and volunteered as a coach for boys’ baseball and girls’ softball for more than ten years for New Providence Recreation.

“Now therefore, I, J. Brooke Hern, Mayor of the Borough of New Providence, County of Union and State of New Jersey, hereby express my appreciation and congratulate Kevin Carroll for his many years of service to the Community Activities Advisory Board of the Borough of New Providence, and wish him and his family the very best wishes in their future endeavors.”

Although Carroll said he does not feel he is deserving of this honor, he said, “I’m very thankful of the people up here that presented it to me and all of you who came to honor me.”

To close, he jokingly said, “Dr. Robinson has your addresses and I’ll be sending you a check for coming.”

Carroll received a standing ovation and lots of cheers from the large crowd of community members in attendance.
