Hillview Field Renovations Almost Complete

New Providence plans to tackle one recreational capital project per year.

The Hillview Park renovation project is expected to be completed in the next few weeks and is the first phase of a multi-year plan to upgrade New Providence’s recreational facilities.

The construction of two turf baseball infields, as well as a grass outfield and irrigational upgrades will be finished in October but the park won’t open until spring, according to the Alternative Press.

“The project is on schedule and on budget,” Borough Councilman Jim Madden said. “The work should be complete during mid-October. The borough has committed to actively maintaining the grass once the implementation is complete.”

Residents can expect the borough to tackle at least one large capital project each year.

The borough plans to tackle Lincoln Park next year by moving a baseball field closer to the VFW building to allow for the outfields to be used for soccer without impacting the baseball infields. Conceptual plans also discuss a playground, basketball courts and bathroom facilities.

“Everything that we’re doing in renovations, we will solicit input from neighbors who live nearby, along with the folks who are involved with the activities and the organizations themselves,” Madden said.
