Local Justice: Decisions in Municipal Court

The Municipal Court handled one criminal case arising in Berkeley Heights and two related criminal cases arising in New Providence.

In State v. Bonnie L. Koellhoffer, of Scotch Plains, the State charged defendant with providing false information to a Berkeley Heights police officer during a traffic stop.  Defendant pleaded guilty to the Township Ordinance of interfering with a police officer.  The Court imposed a $506 fine and $30 in costs.

In the cases arising in New Providence, State v. Joseph Pasquale, of New Providence, and in State v. Thomas J. Zukasky, Jr., of Roselle Park, the State charged each of the defendants with shoplifting a Christmas tree from a tree stand at Zita’s.  They both pleaded guilty to shoplifting.  The Court sentenced each to 10 days of community service and also imposed upon each a $300 fine, $30 in costs, and $125 in surcharges. 

The Berkeley Heights and New Providence Shared Municipal Court convenes every other Thursday in the New Providence Municipal Center, located at 360 Elkwood Ave.  The next court date is December 15, 2011.
