Local Justice: Decisions in Municipal Court

The Municipal Court handled two criminal cases arising in New Providence and one criminal case arising in Berkeley Heights.

In State v. Zachary C. Gehl, of Far Hills, the State charged defendant with theft of jewelry.  Defendant pleaded guilty.  The Court imposed a $500 fine, $125 in surcharges, and $30 in costs.

In State v. Alexander J. Schuchard, of New Providence, the State charged defendant with possession of marijuana.  Defendant pleaded guilty.  The Court imposed a $300 fine, $125 drug enforcement and demand reduction ("DEDR") penalty, a $50 lab fee, and $30 in costs.

In State v. Febonel Gedeon, of Irvington, the State charged defendant with obstructing justice by providing false information to a Berkeley Heights police officer during a traffic stop.  Defendant pleaded guilty.  The Court imposed a $400 fine, $125 in surcharges, and $30 in costs.

The Berkeley Heights and New Providence Shared Municipal Court convenes every other Thursday in the New Providence Municipal Center, located at 360 Elkwood Ave.  The next court date is January 5, 2012.
