New Providence Council Candidates Host 'Meet and Greet' This Thursday

Dessert reception, taking place at Creative Wallcoverings from 7 to 9:30 p.m., will feature Alan Lesnewich and Gary Kapner, who are running for seats on Borough Council.

Within the ever-changing economic climate, the ability to manage the tightrope of a small town with large aspirations, to make the tough decisions needed to maintain New Providence as a thriving community, we need leaders who are equipped to address the current challenges while maintaining a complete vision for our Borough’s future. It is for these reasons that Alan Lesnewich and Gary Kapner are running for Borough Council on the Republican ballot this November. 

Councilman Lesnewich is seeking reelection for the unexpired term he has filled since January, 2011.  During his time on Council, he has been the Chair of the Personnel and Community Facility Committees, as well as Vice Chair for Administration and Public Works, as well as a member of the Public Safety Committee. He is current Council Liaison for the Cable and Community Activities & Advisory Boards.

Lesnewich is a lifelong New Providence resident, who is also the founding member and current President of the New Providence Athletic Foundation (NPAF).  In leading the NPAF, he helped provide the (FieldTurf and Musco Lights) at , which have provided a $1M improvement and served the needs of more than 2,000 residents each year; all without any tax impact to property owners.

Gary Kapner took over the reins of the family business ) along with his wife, Rachel, fifteen years ago and has become very visible within the work streams that are guiding the business and economic growth of New Providence.  

As Vice Chair of the Downtown Improvement District, Kapner has provided oversight on the parking and streetscape improvements.  As a founding member of the New Providence Business and Professional Association (NPBPA), he served as President for six years and took on projects and events that had become casualties of the municipal budget process and located business sponsors to support them.  This collaboration has allowed community events such as the , , , as well as the , to remain on our community calendar.
