Local Comedian Robin Fox to Appear at Benefit Hosted by NJ Elks

Comedian Robin Fox, who pursued professional comedy after gaining a reputation for being the funniest mom on the block, will appear in a comedy benefit sponsored by the New Jersey Elks Association, Veterans Services Program.

The night of comedy will be held on Sat. March 10, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Paramus Elks Lodge, 200 N. State Highway 17, Paramus, NJ. Proceeds will be donated to programs around the state that assist homeless veterans.

The event has the potential to raise $10,000, said Event Chairperson Kelly Mazzocchi, a member of the Stirling Elks Lodge.

A $30 admission fee will include light refreshments, hors d’ouvres and desserts, as well as an evening of entertainment featuring three comedians, John McClellan, Adam Kerr, and Robin Fox.

Mazzocchi said there will be a cash bar, a 50/50 Raffle, as well as donated items that will be raffled.

Currently there are over 6000 homeless veterans in New Jersey, according to Mazzocchi.

She said, “This past weekend the Stirling Elks Lodge hosted a breakfast for 20 veterans, and every year, the Elks’ East Central District hosts a barbeque at the Veterans Hospital in Lyons, NJ.”

The East Central District includes the towns of: Stirling, Summit, Rahway, Cranford, Mountainside, Springfield/Hillside, Linden/Elizabeth and Union.

80 year old Warren Roche of Berkeley Heights, said he has been a member of the Elks Association for 33 years.

“Originally I was a member of the Berkeley Heights Elks Lodge, but then it moved to Stirling in 1970,” said Roche who served in the military from 1954 to 1956.

“I knew the number of homeless veterans was high, but when I heard over 6000 I couldn’t believe it,” Roche said.

“I’m happy to see that people are beginning to pay more attention to this situation. If these men and women don’t receive our help, they are going to be in deep trouble. It’s not easy making the transition from combat to civilian life,” Roche said.
