Councilman Dr. Bob Robinson, co- chair of the committee charged with reviewing and considering recreation enhancements for the Borough, announced on April 1 that the Hillview project will be delayed due to the unusually mild and wet winter.

“The weather was too warm and wet over the winter to perform the infield sub work at Hillview without causing significant damage to other areas of the field”, Robinson reported at a recent Borough Council Meeting.

Dr. Robinson explained that it was necessary for the field to freeze enough to drive heavy equipment on the fields without causing damage associated with heavy trucks.  It is necessary to drive between the infields to perform the work which would have resulted in significant ruts and grooves in the soft and wet grass, necessitating additional expense to repair the damage.

Dr. Robinson reported that he met with the other members of his sub-committee, Councilman Rob Muñoz and Borough Administrator Doug Marvin along with the Borough Engineer, Andy Hipolit.  Ultimately, it was decided that the work would be delayed until late summer/early fall – during a drier season so the work can be completed without causing additional damage.

“Everyone is anxious for the improvements to begin and none are more disappointed than our committee that the project will not commence as we originally planned.  However, it’s important to remember that this is an improvement that will last for many years – it’s important that we get it right,” Muñoz said.
