Poll: Legalize Sports Betting in Jersey?

Sports betting is on the ballot. We want to know what you think about the issue.

Fifty-two percent of New Jersey residents surveyed favor legalizing sports betting in Atlantic City casinos and at racetracks, a Fairleigh Dickinson University poll released recently.

The poll found 31 percent in opposition.

Men are the overwhelming supporters, with 65 percent in favor, compared to 39 percent of women.

“New Jerseyans are used to having gambling in their state, and used to having it in Atlantic City,” said Peter Woolley, a political scientist who directed the poll. “I think they see this as revenue for the state.”

All New Jersey voters will get a say on the issue in Tuesday's election, when a statewide ballot question will ask whether the state should legalize sports betting. Even if the nonbinding referendum passes, a federal law limiting sports betting to certain states would first have to change.

What do you think? Should New Jersey legalize sports betting? Why? Vote in the poll and share your thoughts in the comments.
