South Mountain Reservation Part of Green Acres Initiative

Money to be spent on parks and open space acquisition.

Union County will get $1.3 million for open space acquistion while Millburn will get $250,000 for South Mountain Reservation preservation under the “Green Acres” legislation approved by the governor earlier this week.

Assembly Republican Conference Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Union, Somerset, Morris, Essex) announced this week a list of local preservation and conservation projects that are funded by legislation he co-sponsored in the Assembly. A package of three bills, known as the "Green Acres" legislation, was approved by Governor Christie on Wednesday.

"Open space initiatives help sustain our state's $40 billion outdoor tourism industry by giving our residents and visitors places to fish, swim, boat, hunt and hike," Bramnick said.

"Although New Jersey is one of the most densely populated states, the legislation Gov. Christie signed today sends a strong message that we are committed to preserving our state's natural resources whether it's a mountaintop in Essex County, a small park in Union County or farmland in Somerset County," Bramnick said Thursday.

The three bills appropriate $157 million for projects in all of the state's 21 counties, including $5.6 million for projects in the 21st District. A full list of projects funded in the 21st District follows:
