Yellin Replaces Brackman on Democratic Ticket For Berkeley Heights Council

Stephen Yellin, a lifelong resident, joins Michael Simon on the Democratic ticket for Berkeley Heights Township Council.

Stephen Yellin is running as a Democrat for Berkeley Heights Township Council this November, replacing Maritza Brackman.

Yellin says Brackman withdrew her candidacy after the June 4 primary due to illness, and the Berkeley Heights Democratic Committee threw their support behind Yellin last week.

Yellin is running for council with Michael Simon. Together, they are challenging councilmen Edward Delia and Thomas Pirone for the two open seats.

“I decided to run (provided the Committee consented to it) because I'd like to give back to Berkeley Heights — where I've been born and raised — in the best way I know, and that's through public service,” Yellin told Patch Monday afternoon. “I have a lot to contribute to our community in the form of energy and ideas, and I hope to do so if elected this November.”

Yellin says he never intended to run for council this year since he was actively involved with “Stop the BAC,” and he didn’t want to mix partisanship with the town-wide effort. However, since the “Stop the BAC” campaign has concluded, he has the time and ability to serve the township if elected.
