Participation in any sport makes a student eligible. Consideration is given to the number of varsity letters earned; school, conference, county and state records or recognition gained, and induction into the Athletic Honor Society.

Other criteria include good sportsmanship, respect for players, coaches, officials, and fans, and dedication to sport and team, as well as good character, reputation, leadership and a grade point average consistent with the standards outlined in the Athletic Rules of Conduct.

The Booster Club also honored The Michael Suchena Outstanding Athlete Memorial Award winners, named for Gov. Livingston's first athletic director.

It is sponsored by the Highlander Booster Club and is presented to the outstanding male and female athlete in the graduating class who have earned Varsity letters in at least two different sports and who exemplify the best in sportsmanship, and the American ideals of leadership and fair play on and off the athletic field.

The recipients have served as role models to their teammates, displaying the leadership qualities that inspire others to be all that they can be.  This year's recipients are Patrick Eichner and Pamela  Samuels, who both received a $750 scholarship.

In addition, their names will be engraved on the Booster Club’s Michael Suchena Memorial Plaque in the GL Athletic Showcase.
