Mountainside Schools Celebrate Red Ribbon Week

Fun events highlight the week committed to promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Mountainside schools celebrated Red Ribbon Week October 24-28 with many activities that were planned by the Mountainside PTA in collaboration with the schools. 

At Deerfield school, Red Ribbon Week symbolized a commitment to a healthy, drug free lifestyle. 

At Beechwood school, the emphasis was on making healthy choices. Both schools had the following theme days: "Wear Red Day" with special rewards to the classrooms with the most students dressed in red and red apples for lunch; "Turn Your Back on Bad Choices Day" were the students wore their shirts backwards; and "Use your head and put a LID on Unhealthy Choices & Don't let poor choices TWIST your mind Day" were the students wore their favorite hats to school and were treated to twisted pretzels at lunch.   
 
At Beechwood, the students decorated a paper hand and wrote their commitment to a healthy choice for a school display and ended the week with a puppet show about healthy choices.

At Deerfield the 3rd-5th grade students decorated red ribbons and wrote their pledge for healthy choices for a classroom display. The 6th-8th graders signed a pledge poster to stay drug free. 

Deerfield students ended their week with a BMX bike show assembly that included a bike jump over the principal and teachers.
