People You Need To Know At Your Child's School

Now that the school year officially began on Tuesday, it's time to get to know the people at your child's school in New Providence.

Students in the New Providence School District returned for the 2011/2012 school year on Tuesday morning. 

Parents, it’s important for you to not only know your child’s teachers, but to also get to know the individuals working behind the scenes at your child’s school. So, Patch compiled a list of the key individuals that you can contact this year for a myriad of reasons, which will hopefully make this school year a smooth one for you and your child.

Salt Brook Elementary School

Jeannie Maier, Principal

Dr. Joseph Harvey, Assistant Principal, Anti-Bullying Specialist

Parents can contact Dr. Harvey regarding day-to-day operations and student issues that may arise.
 
“Dr. Harvey and I are always accessible and we encourage parents to call us, even if there’s information they are looking for or maybe their child came home and said something that they weren’t quite sure about, call and ask a question,” Maier said. “We’re always here for the parents to speak with them."
 
Patricia Kalinger, RN, School Nurse

“She handles all the medical information within the school. She also, over the summer, has to make sure all the immunizations are up-to-date,” Maier said. “A lot of students have allergies in the building. She developed a plan for the allergy students and we have signs posted on classroom doors regarding that. She does anything and everything in the area of health, safety and medical for the students at Salt Brook.”
 
Erika Ledder, School Counselor

Parents can contact Ms. Ledder for any student struggles, whether it be social or emotional, as well as any issues with organization or study skills. She also runs the Character Education Program at Salt Brook.

"It is important for the child and parents to build a relationship with their counselor so we know how best to help the student throughout high school," Maciag said. "Sharing information allows us to advocate for the students when it comes to scholarships or various programs/honors, and allows us to get a better feel for appropriate college and post high school plans. The more we know, the more we can help."
