Salt Brook School Hosts 4th Annual Spring Fling Fundraiser

CEC Wade Burch, winner of The Food Network's "Chopped," created a meal for over 200 attendees at the fundraiser. All proceeds will benefit educational programs and school supplies.

New Providence’s Salt Brook Elementary School held its 4th Annual Spring Fling Fundraiser last Friday Night, April 29 at the New Providence Senior Citizens Center.

The event was hosted by the Salt Brook PTA and proceeds from the evening will benefit educational programs and provide for supplies throughout the school year.

A major draw to the event was this year’s Southwestern cuisine and its creator.  CEC Wade Burch, winner of The Food Network’s “Chopped” and Executive Chef at SouthWestNY in the World Financial Center, is also the parent of a Salt Brook student.  He donated his time and talent to create a meal that the over-200 attendees will not soon forget.

This year’s event was a huge success thanks to the many local sponsors who supported the cause.  Argent Plumbing, McGrath’s Hardware, Gabriele Fitness, Creative Wallcoverings, The Murray Hill Inn, NP Fuel, The Sports Academy, The YMCA, and Skin Deep Spa were some of the major donors.

Additionally, dozens of local businesses generously donated items and gift certificates for the auction and raffle.

“In a time when our schools need financial support, the surrounding business community really stepped up," said co-chair Allison Smith. "They gave generously and helped us create an extremely profitable event.  I am glad that we can continue to support them in return by shopping locally."

The Salt Brook PTA is a not-for-profit charity, which supports and funds educational activities and capital projects within their public school.

Past Spring Fling proceeds have been utilized to build a new playground; update technology through the purchase of SmartBoards; and fund teacher-requested grants for classroom materials and supplies. The goals of the PTA are only realized because of donations from the community and the PTA’s many member-volunteers.
