School Report Card: Salaries, Enrollment Numbers Are In For Berkeley Heights, Mountainside

The Department of Education released the school report cards today which show that median administrator and faculty salaries remain close to the state average.

The Department of Education has released the 2009-2010 school report card data. We compared several categories of data to a previous report Patch reported in November 2010.

Administrator Years of Experience and Salary

Berkeley Heights median administrator salary rose nearly $5,000 from 2008-2009 to 2009-2010 to $126,028. The state's median is $117,895. The median numbers of years of experience for administrators in Berkeley Heights is lower than the state median by four years.

Mountainside median administrator salaries rose by $5,031 from 2008-09 to 2009-2010 to $122,031, also above the state median. The median number of years experience is lower than the state average by five years.

Faculty Years Experience and Median Salary

The median number of years of experience of Berkeley Heights faculty remained almost the same as 2008-2009 as the state median at 10 years. While other union County towns saw a rise in median salaries for faculty, Berkeley Heights faculty stayed nearly the same at $61,602 in 2009-2010, down $20 from the previous report. The state median salary is $61,840.

Meanwhile, Mountainside salaries rose from $54,592 in 2008-2009 to 57, 032 in 2009-2010, but still $4,808 short of the state median.

Cost per pupil

There are two ways of calculating per pupil expenditures, a comparative cost per pupil which represents a comparison with districts with similar budget types, and a raw cost per pupil figure. Berkeley Heights cost per pupil is $14,907, slightly less than the state average. The cost per pupil in Mountainside is $14,276.00, less than the state median of $15,221.

Revenue

Berkeley Heights revenue sources changed slightly in 2009-2010 with funds from the lacal tax levy making up 80 percent of the school's budget in 2009-2010, up one percent from 2008-2009. Mountainside rose dramatically from 77% to 84%, which was the biggest rise in the county from a percentage standpoint.
