Student Struck by Car in Clark

A 13-year-old girl was hit by a blue Dodge sedan at the intersection of Lake Avenue and William Street.

A 13-year-old Kumpf student suffered a minor head injury but was conscious and alert after being struck by a sedan on Lake Avenue Thursday afternoon.

According to bystanders, the girl was walking home from school with friends when she attempted to run across Lake Avenue from Armstrong Avenue and was hit by a blue four-door Dodge Avenger. Bystanders claim the vehicle was driving south on Lake Avenue when it struck the girl. She jumped to try and avoid the car as the driver slammed on the brakes in an attempt to stop, witnesses said. The girl fell onto the car's hood and then landed several feet in front of the vehicle. Friends claim she looked to the left but not to the right before crossing, and therefore did not see the oncoming car.

Bystanders say the driver, who appeared to be a 20-something male, is an EMT and immediately jumped out of his vehicle, removed his shirt and wrapped the girl's head with it. Another EMT who was driving on Lake Avenue also pulled over to assist before the Clark Emergency Squad arrived. Clark Police also arrived within moments of the incident.
