World Language Honor Society Ceremony at GLHS

162 students honored for their achievements and dedication.

The love of languages brought students together Thursday night in recognition of their efforts.

The ceremony was held in Davis Hall Auditorium at Governor Livingston High School, where students were recognized for their academic achievement in the area of World and Sign Languages by their various World Language Honor Societies.

For the 162 participants in these ceremonies, it was a love of these languages that spurred them on to excel in their chosen studies. Whether an old world language, like French, Spanish or Italian, one of the oldest languages like Latin, or one of the newer languages, American Sign, all 162 demonstrated a passion and commitment to excellence to reach these milestones.

·         78 studying either Spanish or Portuguese

·         20 who were focusing on French

·         15 studying Latin

·         12 who were working on their proficiency in American Sign Language

The purpose of the World language Honor Society is to recognize those students who have excelled in the study of their chosen world language.

Some of the criteria for membership in these Societies includes a demonstrated excellence in both the cumulative average in his/her world language course and their overall GPA, as well as the approval and recommendation of her/his world language teacher (based on consistent high academic performance).

The school, parents and friends were extremely happy to be able to honor world language students who continue to derive immense satisfaction from their academic achievement.

And the attendees were almost as happy to take advantage of the assortment of pastries and cookies sponsored by the Italian Club right after the ceremonies were concluded.
