Meakem was a tennis player growing up and has been a tennis instructor for over ten years. He is a math teacher during the school year, but teaches tennis at the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club each summer, although he is planning on opening my own tennis camp in Berkeley Heights in the summer of 2012.
"As a tennis instructor who became a math teacher, it was only natural to try and get the varsity tennis coaching job which I now have for girls and boys," said Meakem.

How Is the Team Doing so far This Season?
"The team is currently 12-2, 6-1 in conference play and ranked 16th in the state, 3rd in group 2, and 2nd in Union County. We just beat Rumson 3-2 to advance to the state sectional final on Monday afternoon vs. Holmdel.
Key wins this season were Kent Place, Pascack Hills, Shore, and Rumson.
A Little History on the Program...
"This is my 3rd season as girls head coach. We have won the state sectional title each of the past two years. Winning it this year will be tougher as Holmdel, #4 in the state, is a new addition to our section this year. "
Goals for the Season
"Our goals for the season were to win the county tournament, the conference, and the sectional championship. We finished 2nd in the county tournament. We have a match with Westfield at home on the last day of the season Friday 10/28 with a share of the conference title on the line.
"I am very proud of the team."
