GL Girls Hoops Remains Unbeaten

Highlanders beat Roselle Catholic in rematch of UCT final.

 

While it wasn't for a county title, there was still a championship on the line, and the returning members of the Gov. Livingston girls' varsity basketball team may have been playing with a chip on their shoulder, with something to prove early in the new campaign.

Focused and patient, and with both teams entering the game unbeaten, the Lady Highlanders turned the tables on perennial power Roselle Catholic, with an impressive 42-25 victory to capture the Roselle Catholic Tournament in Roselle.

The Lady Lions had entered the game with a 4-0 record, but Erin Ferguson, Mallory George delivered solid performances, chippping in with 10 points apiece, while the GL defense stifled RC throughout the contest.

Gov. Livingston reached the title game thanks to a 55-52 overtime victory against Morris Catholic. Alyssa Polmeni and sam Dowling led the way with 14 points apiece, while Cat Quinn hit for three big points during the OT. Ferguson also added 11 points in the win.

GL had one of their best season's in history, but fell to Roselle Catholic in the Union County final last spring.

The Highlanders moved their record to 5-0 and will next face Dayton on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
