GLHS Senior Athletes Honored by Highlander Booster Club

12 senior student-athletes were awarded scholarships for achievements on and off the field.

About 200 people were on hand for the 2013 Governor Livingston Highlander Booster Club Senior Athletes Banquet last Tuesday, where $6,500 in scholarships were awarded. The event was held at the Primavera Regency in Stirling, The Alternative Press reported.

The event featured Governor Livingston High School senior varsity lettermen and women. Ten student-athletes, selected by the school's coaches using leadership qualities, sportsmanship, character and devotion to their team as criteria, won $500 scholarships for college. The scholarship winners selected were Michael Bamundo, Alyssa Cranston, Erin Ferguson, Jennifer French, Mallory George, Shane Haddad, Jonathan Mele, Paige Primmer, Mark Ripley and Justin Smalley.

Two other awards were given: One boy and one girl were presented with the Michael Suchena Memorial Award, named for GLHS' first athletic director. Seniors Michael Murphy and Michelle Reedy received the honor, each garnering a crystal trophy and a $750 scholarship.
