Street Fair Comes to Berkeley Heights for First Time

Fair will feature more than 100 exhibitors, local businesses, food vendors, games, rides and various activities Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The first Berkeley Heights Street Fair hits Springfield Avenue on Sunday between Snyder and Plainfield avenues.

Sponsored by the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Berkeley Heights Rotary Club, and produced by JC Promotions, Inc., this rain-or-shine event will feature 100-plus exhibitors selling new items, arts and crafts, and collectibles and local merchants from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., said Cissy Gialanella, president of JC Promotions, Inc.

There will also be a kids zone with small mechanical rides and inflatable attractions, a wide variety of food vendors, face painting, clowns, games, sand art, tattoos, pony rides and a petting zoo.

“As producer of this event, I am pleased that so much of the local community is getting involved,” Gialanella told Patch. “As a first time event in Berkeley Heights, we did our best to bring a wide variety of attractions so everyone will have a nice time.  We are hoping that this festival is ongoing for years to come.”

Gialanella said it was Joe Steiner and Dr. Patrick Smith from the Suburban Chamber of Commerce who came up with the idea to host a street fair. But Steiner says it was Mayor Joe Bruno who came to a Chamber meeting and asked if it was possible to have an event like this.

“With his help, I think we’re going to have a great Sunday,” Steiner says.

Bruno said this is a new event for the township that will be fun for all and showcase the town’s merchants.

“I promise you it will be the talk of the town on Monday and if you miss it, you'll have to wait until next year,” Bruno says. “So don't miss it!”

Gialanella said there will be an international food selection, including sausage & peppers, cheese steaks, hot dogs & burgers, gyros, butterfly fries, pulled pork sandwiches, shish kabob, fried mozzarella sandwiches, ice cream, lemonade, Italian Ice, kettle corn, chicken basket, zeppoles, funnel cakes, bakery items, and much more.

There will also be a live concert throughout the day featuring a few different bands. The schedule is as follows:
  • Reunited — 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Diverse — 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
