Mount Carmel Feast, Farmers Market, Movies, Concerts This Week

Union County will also host a Summer Arts Festival Concert in Mountainside.

Mount Carmel Feast continues in Berkeley Heights at the Mount Carmel facility, located at Springfield Avenue and 56 River Rd., through Tuesday night. Monday will be an evening for family-friendly fun and fireworks, according to the feast website. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday will be Feast Day, featuring a parade through Berkeley Heights at 8 a.m. A fireworks extravaganza, provided by Garden State Fireworks and the Santore Family, will begin at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, the final night of the Mount Carmel Feast. The fairgrounds will open at 6 p.m., according to the feast website. Tickets are $10 per person, but children under the age of 5 are free. For more information, check out our preview article. Mountainside Borough Council will meeting this Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Borough Hall. Check Mountainside borough’s website for the agenda.

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is hosting the Summer Arts Festival Concert this Wednesday. The music of “American Rapture” will be featured at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is also hosting a Matinee at Trailside Nature & Science Center at Watchung Reservation in Mountainside this Wednesday. “Kids in Motion” will begin at 1:30 p.m. and admission is $5. For more details, call (908) 789-3665.

The Special Events Committee & Berkeley Heights Recreation Commission will host one of the “Concerts in the Park” this Wednesday. From 7:30 to 9 p.m., “Parrotbeach,” a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, will play at Memorial Park. The concert series is presented by the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.

The New Providence Farmers Market will be open this Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Sponsored by the New Providence Business Community, the market is open every Wednesday through October at its new location in the Presbyterian Church at New Providence parking lot on Springfield Avenue. This weekly market is a Jersey Fresh market, according to the New Providence Business and Professional Association website, so all produce is grown in New Jersey. Community members can stop by for fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh mozzarella, artisan breads, fruit pies, cookies, crab cakes, gourmet nuts, dried fruits, prepared gourmet Italian meals, honey and flowers.

“Movies in the Park” begins this Thursday at Memorial Park in Berkeley Heights with “Hotel Transylvania.” The movie will begin at 8:15 p.m. or dusk, and free popcorn and water will be provided.

Home for Good Dog Rescue, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Summit, recently sent three Junior Ambassadors to Georgia to visit animal shelters. Their project while there was to each pick a dog from a shelter, medicate and vaccinate the dog, and arrange transportation for each to New Jersey. The Ambassadors will now arrange their spay-neuter, place each dog in foster and see each dog through to their forever home. This organization rescued 100 dogs on the Georgia trip and a private jet owner in Morristown transported 15 of those dogs to New Jersey last week.
