National Night Out, Berkeley Heights Council Meeting This Week

Here's a look at what's happening in Berkeley Heights, New Providence and Mountainside this week.

Community members are invited to a Candlelight Vigil for Brooke Healey, a 4-year-old New Providence girl who is battling an inoperable brain tumor, on Monday. Organized by family friend Maria Mazzone, the vigil is scheduled from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Our Lady of Peace Church Soccer Field. Summit’s “National Night Out” is set for this Tuesday on the Village Green from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be activities, games, food vendors and demonstrations by local and national emergency services agencies throughout the night. There will also be a “Dunk-a-Cop” tank, which will benefit Brooke Healey, a 4-year-old New Providence girl battling an inoperable brain tumor. The New Providence Planning Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled. The board will meet on Aug. 13.

The Berkeley Heights Planning Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday and Board of Adjustment meeting scheduled for Thursday have been cancelled.

“Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” which was scheduled to be screened last Thursday, will now be screened at Memorial Park in Berkeley Heights this Thursday. The movie will begin at 8:15 p.m. or dusk, and there will be free popcorn and water.

The New Providence Farmers Market will be open this Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Sponsored by the New Providence Business Community, the market is open every Wednesday through October at its new location in the Presbyterian Church at New Providence parking lot on Springfield Avenue. This weekly market is a Jersey Fresh market, according to the New Providence Business and Professional Association website, so all produce is grown in New Jersey. Community members can stop by for fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh mozzarella, artisan breads, fruit pies, cookies, crab cakes, gourmet nuts, dried fruits, prepared gourmet Italian meals, honey and flowers.
