Couple Helps Sandy Victims, Meetings, NJ Pilots This Week

Here's a look at what we'll be covering this week.

New Providence Borough council will meet this Monday at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, located in the New Providence Municipal Center. The agenda will be published on the borough’s website, newprov.org.

Vicki and Tim Sickel met in Iowa after a bad flood and married three years later. The couple will lead volunteers from Tim's 1976 New Providence High School graduating class in September to help people living along the Jersey shore rebuild homes lost in Sandy. Check back Monday afternoon to read all about their story.

Players from the Jersey Pilots, whose home field is in Berkeley Heights, will play in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game on Monday in Quakertown, Pa. Check back for an article about the game results.

Berkeley Heights Township Council will meet on Tuesday, 7 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room of Town Hall. The agenda hasn’t been published yet, but will be posted on the township’s website, berkeleyheightstwp.com, before the meeting.

The Special Events Committee & Berkeley Heights Recreation Commission will host one of the “Concerts in the Park” this Wednesday. From 7:30 to 9 p.m., “Big Band Evolution,” will play at Memorial Park. The concert series is presented by the Suburban Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.

The New Providence Farmers Market will be open this Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Sponsored by the New Providence Business Community, the market is open every Wednesday through October at its new location in the Presbyterian Church at New Providence parking lot on Springfield Avenue. This weekly market is a Jersey Fresh market, according to the New Providence Business and Professional Association website, so all produce is grown in New Jersey. Community members can stop by for fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh mozzarella, artisan breads, fruit pies, cookies, crab cakes, gourmet nuts, dried fruits, prepared gourmet Italian meals, honey and flowers.

The Berkeley Heights Board of Education will hold a meeting on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Columbia Middle School Multipurpose Room. There will be an executive section at 7 p.m. The agenda will be posted on the district’s website, http://www.bhpsnj.org, before the meeting.
