Chris 'CJ' Scalera and Ashvin Singh were each recognized for their efforts.

Two area students were recently recognized by the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad for their volunteerism.

Chris "CJ" Scalera and Ashvin Singh were feted by the squad on Aug. 4, with Mayor Joseph Bruno in attendance, the Independent Press reported.

Scalera, a Seton Hall Prep student, is an Eagle Scout candidate who renovated the grounds of the Berkeley Heights Rescue Squad for his Scout project.

Singh, a squad member and Boston University student, used his EMT training to aid the injured following the Boston Marathon bombing.
