A former Berkeley Heights resident will spend the next year raising awareness of autism as she gets ready to compete in the Miss International pageant.
Brielle LaCosta, 28, is the reigning Miss East Coast International and a well-known advocate for autism awareness.
“I am excited about my year as Miss East Coast International, and I plan on working with several organizations to bring awareness to an array of causes,” LaCosta said.
The current Warren resident was crowned Miss New Jersey International in 2010 and participated in more then 100 charity events during her tenure.
“I have several causes that are close to my heart including animal shelters, raising awareness for cancer, heart disease, and helping young women with peer pressure and self esteem,” LaCosta said.
She is a 2003 Governor Livingston High School graduate who holds a degree in psychology from Rutgers University.
