Formed in 1902, the New Providence Volunteer Fire Department's first home was in a blacksmith shop that was owned by one of the firefighters. Three locations and 90 years later, Prudential Insurance Company donated land to the Borough of New Providence to build a new firehouse. Constructed between 1993 and 1996 at a cost of $1,400,000, the firehouse is still home to volunteer members and all equipment to this day. With nearly 40 volunteer members and 12 volunteer officers, the fire department accepts applications for full member and junior member volunteer firefighters on a rolling basis. Applications and requirements are available on the fire department's website.
