A New Providence man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Connecticut in connection with the 2012 death of his young son. Alexander Wu, 8, was playing in the hallway of his grandmother's apartment building in Stamford, Conn. when the screen on the window where he was playing gave way. The boy fell six stories to his death, according to an article on ctpost.com. Alexander's father, Zhongzin Jason of New Providence, filed the lawsuit in Stamford in February. His attorneys filed the lawsuit in State Superior Court, the ctpost.com article said. Rippowam Manor, the senior housing complex where the boy was playing and where his grandmother lived, is owned by the Stamford Housing Authority, ctpost.com said. The following information was submitted by the New Providence Police Department. Police, Fire and Rescue Squad members responded to a home on Morehouse Place on April 22 for reports of a fire in the kitchen. According to police, the fire was reported at 7:20 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed smoke coming from the residence. The homeowner was able to douse the majority of the blaze with a fire extinguisher that was in the house. Officers and firefighters then completely extinguished the flames. Reports indicate that the fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty dishwasher. The rescue squad treated a 13-year-old female for possible smoke inhalation, but she was released on scene to her parents.

A report of a suspicious person led to a drug arrest Thursday, according to Berkeley Heights Police. On April 25, at 12:33 a.m., Berkeley Heights Police officers responded to the area of Mountain Avenue near Oak Ridge Drive on a report of a suspicious person. Patrolman Ed Gaffney arrived and came in contact with a suspect identified as Jesus E. Diaz, 25, of Scotch Plains. A computer check revealed that Diaz held outstanding warrants out of Berkeley Heights and Scotch Plains totaling $1,330 and a no bail warrant out of Somerset County for drug offenses. During the course of the investigation, a search of Diaz turned up four hypodermic needles, and several empty wax folds containing suspected heroin residue. Diaz was transported to police …

The following information was provided by the New Providence Police Department. New Providence Police are investigating several cases of graffiti that were reported on April 21 on borough property. According to police, patrols responded to a report from a citizen in regards to graffiti at several locations on Central Avenue and on borough property between Maple Street and Division Avenue. The graffiti was in the roadway, signs, park benches, foot bridge and on a storm drainage ditch. A check of the area by officers, led to the discovery of graffiti on the Maple Street railroad bridge and the pedestrian tunnel at the New Providence Train Station. Undercover operation, new fines considered to stop texting, talking and driving around state.
State law enforcement officials are cracking down on distracted drivers in the Garden State announcing a new undercover police operation focusing on drivers who talk and text behind the wheel, a broadcast report said. Authorities told CBS 2 Monday that drivers need to be made aware of the dangers involved with the practice. “It appears they’re not getting the message,” Cpl. A multi-vehicle accident caused the death of one person and seriously injured another near Exit 114 on the Garden State Parkway southbound express in Middletown on Saturday afternoon, according to 511nj.org. Leonard Danduone, 80, of New Providence, was driving northbound in the southbound express lane when he hit a car head-on, causing a large crash with four vehicles involved, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Brian Polite. Polite said Danduone, who was driving a white sedan, was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, and pronounced dead. FBI agents and local police spent several hours in a West New York apartment Friday night removing computers, cell phones and other belongings from the residence of Ailina Tsarnaev, the sister of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, according to northjersey.com. April 9 At 2:43 p.m., Detective Patrick Moran arrested Jay Bauman, 50, of South Euclid, Ohio. Moran responded to the area of Middle Way after receiving a report from New Providence Police of a suspicious vehicle. A registration check revealed the owner of the vehicle to be wanted out of Cleveland, Ohio for Aggravated Menacing and weapons offenses. When the owner of the vehicle returned to the area, he was identified and placed under arrest. Bauman was brought to police headquarters, processed and then turned over to the Union County Sheriff’s Department. He was lodged in the Union County Jail, pending extradition to Ohio.
