Formed in 1902, the New Providence Volunteer Fire Department's first home was in a blacksmith shop that was owned by oneMore of the firefighters. Three locations and 90 years later, Prudential Insurance Company donated land to the Borough of New Providence to build a new firehouse. Constructed between 1993 and 1996 at a cost of $1,400,000, the firehouse is still home to volunteer members and all equipment to this day. With nearly 40 volunteer members and 12 volunteer officers, the fire department accepts applications for full member and junior member volunteer firefighters on a rolling basis. Berkeley Heights Fire Department

The Berkeley Heights Fire Department responds to between 500 and 600 calls per year. The department is headed byMore Chief Anthony Padovano and includes three battalion chiefs, two captains, two lieutenants and 30 firefighters, plus five junior firefighters.

The department's gear includes Rescue 1, a fire rescue truck; Squad 1, with a 2,000 gallon per minute pumper; Tower 1, with a 100-foot ladder truck that includes a 1,500 gallon per minute pump; Engine 2, with a 1,500 gallon per minute pumper; and Engine 3, the department's brush truck, with a 1,500 gallon pump; Engine 4, a brand new truck with a 2,000 gallon per minute pump; and a tactical support truck to carry gear.

The Borough of New Providence Administrative Offices are located within the Borough's Municipal Center. This building isMore home to several borough departments, including the mayor, police, the borough administrator and borough clerk, the building and engineering departments, the Board of Education and the Health Services department. The building is also home to the Berkeley Heights and New Providence Shared Municipal Court, the tax assessor and tax collector and the Recreation Department. The rescue squad, fire department, senior citizen center, Department of Public Works and wastewater treatment plant are located in other buildings in the community. Information about the borough, its departments and its services, can be found on the borough's website. The Borough Council meets on Monday evenings in the Municipal Court. Members of the community can volunteer their time at the Municipal Center's front desk.

The William Paca Club of New Providence was officially established in 1943. One year later, the Ladies Auxilary of theMore Paca Club was established. Club members value community service and many are members of the police department, fire department, EMS or other organizations that support the community. The club itself is available to be rented by reservation.

Located on the third floor of the Municipal Center, the Building Department provides various services to the community,More including the application process for and issuance of construction permits, tracking unsafe structures and construction violations, and inspecting work. The five employees of this department also enforce borough ordinances in the areas of building, zoning, development, building, and property maintenance. Residents can schedule appointments for department members to inspect electrical, building, fire protection and plumbing in their homes. The department's website also provides other resources to residents who are looking to make minor improvements to property or preparing to sell their property.
